The Lupie Legacy Awards is an annual Lupus Awareness event in May that recognizes Lupus Awareness and celebrate those who are battling this fight. Lupus is a complicated and unpredictable disease that affects millions of people every year, especially women of color. Flare ups come and go and many have a hard controlling this illness. Many health professionals are still unaware of it's impact on people right here in our community. There are many Lupies living with Lupus who do in fact develop organ complications such as heart disease, kidney disease, and etc. There are Lupies who are homeless, jobless, and even times without healthcare to treat their illness.
Please join The LupieGirl as we celebrate survivors, raise more awareness as well as support the goal and mission of The LupieGirl, Inc., providing support, motivation and resources to those living with Lupus.

Our body's immune system defends and protects us from illnesses and things foreign to it. However, with Lupus, the immune system attacks the body itself. Lupus is an autoimmune illness that can affect any part of the body including joints, skin, and organs.
